Dell Inspiron 7000

This is my 1999 Inspiron 7000 laptop and port replicator.

The 1999 Dell Inspiron 7000 was cutting-edge in its day, and this one is still holding up well today. It's a bit slow compared to newer models, but it is still my main laptop. I bought it new in 1999 - actually, I leased it first, and the bought it out at the end of the lease. I've bumped the standard 5 gig hard drive to 60 gigs, and have installed the maximum amount of ram to 384 megs. It has a Pentium II 400Mhz processor and runs Windows 2000 Pro perfectly. It also has a Linksys wireless G network card. Removable peripherals include a 3.5 floppy / CD Rom combo drive and a Zip drive. The best part, to me, is the big and bright 15" display. It almost seems like a 17"! The Inspiron Port Replicator II is especially cool, and make the laptop extremely mobile and convenient. I even still have the original Dell leather case for it.

Here's a testimony to how well this thing was built. After having the machine for a few months, while working at Disney, I emptied an entire cup of coffee right on top of the keyboard. I immediately turned it off and did my best to clean it up. However it refused to turn back on. I counted it as ruined, and put it away for about a year. I pulled it out to show a friend who was knowlegable, hoping to see how to possibly fix it. When I went to turn it on, it just came right on and has worked without any issues ever since!
