This Pentium III 400 MHz computer became my main computer in 2000, and was the first from-scratch build
since the original 486. My previous machine which was in a direct upgrade line from that 486 moved over
to become RedHare2 and my backup computer.
The new RedHare1 featured an Abit board with 384 megs of ram. It started out with a 5 gig hard drive, but before
it was upgraded to its current version, it upgraded to a 10 gig, then finally a 40 gig. Before completely
reworking it, I had upgraded the processor to a Pentium II 800 MHz. It featured 2 Creative Labs Graphic
Blasters driving 2 ViewSonic 19" monitors. One of my favorite mice ever was used with this machine - a Logitech
optical. It was blue with a little blue light on the top and was the most comfortable mouse ever! Until, of
course, the Logitech G3 Laser that I use today. With several PCI boards including video capture, and a SoundBlaster
16 bit sound card, this machine helped me to build most of the first Red Hare Web sites.
It lasted until 2006 when it just couldn't keep up with the newer technologies. It was then built up with an
upgraded board, a 900 MHz P3, and a gig of ram. It's position as my main computer was replaced by the new AMD
machine.
